Badedas Shower Gel

I am the curious type and try to find more information on the everyday substances which we use almost unnoticed. During my shower, I was using the Badedas shower gel, which I bought at a pretty good bargain online at Chemist Direct. I thought; why not check this shower gel out?

From the information available online on the web, Wikipedia etc., I first found out what exactly is a shower gel

What is a shower gel?

‘A shower gel is quite similar to a liquid soap. The difference between liquid soaps and shower gels is that soaps are made using saponified oil while shower gels are based upon petroleum’

Shower gels are available in various colours, as well as different scents. Practically all shower gels on the market today are pH-balanced. Some shower gels are herb-infused, and offer aroma therapeutic benefits.

Some Badedas shower gel ingredients

Out of curiosity, I checked a few ingredients listed on my Badedas shower gel container. The key ones are listed below
  • Sodium Laureth Sulphate: a detergent and surfactant found in many personal care products (soaps, shampoos, toothpaste etc.). It is an inexpensive and very effective foaming agent
  • Cocamidopropyl betaine: a surfactant in bath products, an emulsifying agent and thickener in cosmetics and an antistatic agent in hair conditioners.
  • Glycerin: attracts and absorbs water, so helps make the skin soft.
  • Coco-Glucoside: a surfactant and foaming agent.
  • Sodium Hyraluronate: mainly acts as a lubricant
  • Sodium PCA: hygroscopic, attracting moisture from the air. Used as a moisturizer (humectant) for hair and skin care products
  • Panthenol: a humectant, emollient and moisturizer
  • Symphytum Officinale Extract: A traditional herbal medicine
  • Citric Acid: an environmentally benign cleaning agent and acts as an antioxidant and a lubricant
  • Limonene: for the lemon smell, considerable amounts exist in citrus fruits
Overall, quite a bit of useful stuff goes into making a complete shower gel.

Badedas

The Badedas brand is quite well known, especially in Italy. Badedas is a part of Sara Lee and is mainly focused on bath and shower products such as shower gels, liquid soaps, deodorants and wipes.
